Introduction
This post is going to be a little different to some of my others. I've just added a new page to the Battle Ready Laravel website that explains how you can earn money by promoting the book.
So I thought I'd write a blog post to explain how the affiliate program works and how you can start earning money by promoting Battle Ready Laravel.
The short version of it is: you can sign up to get a unique affiliate link, and you can earn 30% commission every time someone buys the book using your link!
The affiliate program is open to anyone, and you don't need to have purchased the book to join. So if you're interested in earning some extra money, keep reading to find out more.
What is Affiliate Marketing?
Affiliate marketing is a type of performance-based marketing that rewards affiliates for each customer or sale brought to a business through their own marketing efforts.
The rewards could be anything such as:
- A percentage of the sale price
- A fixed amount per sale
- A recurring payment for each month the customer remains subscribed
- Credits to use on the business's products or services (this is something that Digital Ocean do with their referral program)
Typically, the general idea with affiliate marketing is that the affiliate will promote a service or product using a unique link. When a customer clicks on the link and makes a purchase, the affiliate will receive a commission from the sale or subscription.
The Benefits of Affiliate Marketing
Affiliate marketing can be a great way to earn some extra money on the side, especially if you already have an existing audience that you can promote to.
You can promote your links on your own website, social media, YouTube channels, newsletters, etc. This means that if you produce "evergreen content" (content that doesn't go out of date), you can earn money from it for years to come. For example, I still earn money from affiliate links that I added to my blog posts years ago.
Depending on the programs that you join, you can earn a recurring income from each customer that you refer. For example, I'm part of the Fathom Analytics affiliate program, so I get paid a recurring commission for each customer that I refer to them.
I also find that affiliate marketing is a lot less intrusive than other monetisation methods such as ads. So I feel like it's a win-win situation for everyone involved.
My Experience with Affiliate Marketing
In fact, if you've read any of my posts before, you may have noticed that I sometimes include affiliate links in my articles. I do this so that I can earn a small commission if someone clicks on the links and signs up to any of the services. At the time of writing this article, I make around $65 per month from affiliate marketing. It's by no means a huge amount, but it helps to cover the costs of running the blog.
It's one of my core principles that I want to be as transparent as possible and always be genuine. So, I always make sure that I only promote products and services that I've used and would recommend to others (even if they didn't offer a commission).
I will admit, I would like to add more affiliate links to my articles in the future so I can use the income to help grow this blog faster. I feel like this would be a non-intrusive way to monetise the blog without having to add any annoying ads. However, I'm still not sure how I feel about this because I don't want my site (or myself) to come across as being too "salesy". My number one goal is to help others, and I wouldn't want to promote something I didn't genuinely believe in just to make money from you.
How to Earn Money Promoting Battle Ready Laravel
Now let's take a look at the Battle Ready Laravel affiliate program and how you can start earning money by promoting the book.
- The affiliate program is open to anyone, and you don't need to have purchased the book to join.
- You will earn 30% commission on every sale you refer to the book. This means you'll get $11.58 for every full-price sale of the book*.
- You'll receive your own unique affiliate link that you can use to promote the book.
- The tracking for your unique link will last for 14 days, so if someone clicks on your link and purchases the book within 14 days, you'll still receive the commission.
- You'll be able to track your sales and commissions in your own affiliate dashboard (provided by Lemon Squeezy).
* - Lemon Squeezy (the affiliate program provider) takes a 1% fee from all affiliate sales. For example, if you sell the book for $39, your commission will be $11.58 (which is $11.70 - 1%).
